01
Millwright technician conducting site survey with measurement tools on industrial equipment
Phase I

Site Survey & Work Order

Pre-job walkthrough documents existing conditions: soft-foot check, base-plate condition, grout integrity, and coupling type. Every measurement recorded before a wrench is lifted.

Reference StandardAPI 686 §4.1
Acceptance ToleranceSoft-foot < 0.002″
02
Industrial rigging operation with crane and certified rigger reviewing lift plan documents
Phase II

Rigging Plan & Safety Brief

Lift plan engineered to load charts. Crane capacity, sling angles, and pick points calculated before the rigger touches a shackle. Every lift signed off by a certified rigger.

Reference StandardASME B30.9
Acceptance ToleranceSling angle ≥ 60°
03
Close-up of precision shimming work on heavy industrial machinery base plate
Phase III

Precision Setting & Shimming

Machine set to elevation, level, and centerline. Stainless shim packs installed in calculated thicknesses. No improvised shims — every pack is documented and labeled.

Reference StandardANSI/ASA S2.75
Acceptance ToleranceLevel ±0.001″/ft
04
Laser alignment system mounted on rotating shaft coupling showing precision measurement readout
Phase IV

Laser Alignment Verification

Shaft alignment measured with laser system to ANSI tolerances. Angularity and offset values plotted. Final alignment report printed and handed to the plant before we leave.

Reference StandardAPI 686 §7 / ANSI
Acceptance ToleranceOffset < 0.001″, Angular < 0.0005″/in
05
Plant manager and millwright technician reviewing commissioning documentation and sign-off checklist
Phase V

Commissioning & Handoff

Witnessed startup, vibration baseline recorded, and commissioning checklist signed by plant contact. Full work package — photos, measurements, sign-off sheet — submitted within 24 hours.

Reference StandardISO 10816-3
Acceptance ToleranceVibration < 0.1 in/s RMS

supervisor's log.

5.5 hrsEmergency response to commission
"Called at 0215 on a Saturday — coupling failure on our No. 3 charge pump. Crew was on-site by 0530, aligned and commissioned by 1100. They handed me a printed alignment report before they loaded their truck. That's the standard I hold everyone to now."

"We spec'd millwright hours into a $4.2M compressor train installation bid. Their quote came with phase breakdowns and tolerance references — every other bidder handed us a lump sum. Made the choice easy."

−8 hrsUnder planned shutdown window
"Planned shutdown, 72-hour window. They surveyed the site two weeks out, pre-staged shim packs, and had the laser system dialed in before the first wrench turned. We finished 8 hours ahead of schedule. No surprises."
